24 Things
to Tell You
24 Things to Tell You is a 24 hour durational artwork, unfolding continually in public space across one day.
Each hour of the day, including all the way through the night, a new artwork is presented in a new site across the city – with unusual interventions happening one after another in a range of places. Made in collaboration with 24 different individuals or communities in that place, the work seeks to present a fleeting portrait of the city, with 24 statements appearing in unusual locations like beaches, sheriff courts, living rooms, libraries or motorways each hour of the day.
At 2pm, divers hurl themselves towards pool noodles spelling the phrase 'Deep Breaths'.
At 11pm, taxi drivers clad their cars with vinyl text, sharing conversations they've overheard throughout the years.
At 4am, a woman in her 70s projects a letter to a lost love on the side of the nightclub where they first met.
Breaking through anonymity in the city, for 24 hours all kinds of people rally together to help turn their town into a kind of gallery. I originally presented the work throughout Inverclyde, a post-industrial town on the mouth of the River Clyde, and I'm now working on a second edition on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow, with each iteration taking around 90 people to make happen – all actions streamed to a billboard, allowing people to see their town anew or recognise their own humanity in the struggle of another.
This work is available for touring and would be entirely re-made in each new place over a 2 week period.
